Did you know? JJWC is a member of the General Federation of Womens Clubs, an organization that is 150 years old! Learn more about our long history of being trailblazers!

Check out this wonderful article highlighting the history of GFWC, and the 150th anniversary of Sorosis!

On April 20, 1868 the first meeting of Sorosis was held by Jane Cunningham Croly in the famed Delmonico’s Restaurant. The occasion marked not only the first official gathering of a professional woman’s club within the United States, but also the first major public gathering of women unescorted by men in a restaurant.

Delmonico’s will be celebrating this monumental milestone starting next week by offering a 19th century inspired menu. If you are able to visit, you might very well be eating the same meal that our forebears enjoyed to celebrate being one small bite closer to liberation.
